As part of our specialist program, students have the opportunity to study performing arts with a specialist Performing Arts teacher once a week. Performing Arts is taught in English, and the program includes singing, learning musical instruments, reading music and studying different genres of music. For Years 3 and 4, there are also opportunities to explore other areas of Performing Arts, including Media Arts, Drama and Dance. Our students regularly perform at our weekly assemblies, and there are many other opportunities to showcase their musical abilities as part of community events, such as the annual Moon Lantern Festival celebration and School Picnic.
As a fee-paying extracurricular activity, students also have the option to enrol in weekly keyboard lessons with an instrumental music teacher. The school also hosts Junior Rockers lessons onsite during school hours, which gives students access to weekly lessons in singing, drums and guitar.
Visual Arts at Abbotsford Primary School enrich the learning of our students. Creativity and imagination enable children to problem solve and think more effectively. All students participate in one Visual Arts lesson a week with a specialist teacher and the subject is taught in Chinese. Students have the opportunity to explore various visual art forms, including painting, printing, sculpturing, textiles and drawing.
Student artworks are displayed across the school to give all students the opportunity to showcase their talents and foster greater confidence in their creative skills. Each year, the school also produces calendars that contain every student's artwork. These calendars are very popular among the local community and serves as an important fundraising activity for the school.
All students at Abbotsford Primary School actively participate in a regular Physical Education classes, sports programs, participation in inter-school events (including cross country running) and an intensive swimming program. Physical activities thus afford students a naturally immersive environment to appreciate the finer distinctions between very Chinese verbs that often do not have clear-cut English correspondences.
